Emergency Funds Needed by December 10th, 2020

  • $7,000 needed to complete classroom construction project currently underway

  • $3,000 needed to cover grocery bill until the food shipment arrives at the end of December

  • Total need: $10,000 by December 10th, 2020

Classroom Construction Short $7,000 – due to unforeseen circumstances

We have recently learned that our current construction of classrooms is in need of $7,000 for completion. As you may already know from following our website updates, the facility construction is well underway.

The orphanage has to move out of its current facility by the end of 2020 due its lease not being renewed. We have been working on raising funds to have an initial structure that will function as both classrooms for some of the 900+ students during the day and housing at night for 70+ students. This project is the beginning of a larger goal to create a facility to meet the needs for all of the students of Nile Orphan Care.

Our original plan was to build 18 temporary classrooms to provide more usable space for a lower cost. Upon further investigation, we learned that our land has underground water close to the surface. Several engineers have advised us that any temporary structure or building without a strong foundation will not be sustainable on the existent property.   As a result of these findings, we are now building permanent classrooms, which are more expensive.

Another factor is that South Sudan’s economy is unstable,  inflation is commonplace, and in our case, previous quotes were not honored. Original quotes for building materials/supplies given to us earlier this year  are no longer being honored and our raised funds will no longer cover our construction costs. In response to these challenges, we have  reduced our construction project from 18 temporary classrooms to 10 permanent classrooms.

Even with this reduction, we are still short $7,000. The construction is due to complete  December 10, 2020. We have to pay lacking funds on this date.

South Sudan remains in a serious humanitarian crisis due to the cumulative effects of years of conflict which has destroyed people’s livelihoods. Extreme levels of acute food insecurity persist across the country and nearly 7.5 million (more than half of the population) in need of humanitarian assistance and protection in 2020.

Food shortage

One of the wonderful provisions Nile Orphan Care is able to give children is a daily meal. Typically this meal is the only one the children will receive each day. We are grateful for our partner, Love the Hungry, for providing these high energy meals which are shipped from the United States. However we have just learned that due to Covid related shipping delays, the current shipment of meals will not arrive until late December.

John has projected the current meals on site will run out at the end of next week: November 20th, 2020. The projected cost to cover groceries from the local market until the food shipment arrives is $3,000.

Invitation to Help

Pray for wisdom and provision

      1. That funds would be raised quickly
      2. That construction would complete on-time without any additional costs
      3. That the food shipment would arrive without any further delay (and even early)
      4. For John, the volunteers, and the children as preparations are made to move to the new location in December

God’s Abundant Supply for Our Needs

“The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it” — Psalm 24:1

“He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?” — Romans 8:32

These needs have not taken God by surprise nor are they difficult for Him. We rest in His love for all of us, including the orphans of South Sudan.

Thank you for partnering with us to care for these orphans in His name.

If you have any questions and/or would like further information about anything above, please contact us.

We have many wonderful things to share with you about other developments with Nile Orphan Care.  We look forward to sharing them with you soon in a post!

Sincerely,

Jeffrey Cates & The Board Members of Nile Orphan Care.
