New Year 2021
Come, taste and see.
2020 Review / 2021 Plans / 2021 Budget / Your Partnership
2020 in review
It has been a year of unusual events.
That’s an understatement for Nile Orphan Care and we’re sure that it also applies to your year. We experienced great mercies and we desire to share them with you as an invitation to worship our good Father with us. In this update we want to make a sacrifice of praise.
1 I will extol the Lord at all times;
his praise will always be on my lips.
2 I will glory in the Lord;
let the afflicted hear and rejoice.
3 Glorify the Lord with me;
let us exalt his name together.
At the beginning of 2020, we were on a one year extension for our facility lease. We had no where to go, but to our Father. Through the generosity of our partners, He has provided the funds for a new facility: complete with a well, land for growing crops and permanent structures. We hope to celebrate the construction’s finish soon.
4 I sought the Lord, and he answered me;
he delivered me from all my fears.
5 Those who look to him are radiant;
their faces are never covered with shame.
6 This poor man called, and the Lord heard him;
he saved him out of all his troubles.
7 The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him,
and he delivers them.
Towards the end of the year you received our request for immediate action. Thank you for answering. With your help we were able to meet the shifting demands of construction and food supply.
8 Taste and see that the Lord is good;
blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.
9 Fear the Lord, you his holy people,
for those who fear him lack nothing.
10 The lions may grow weak and hungry,
but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.
We did this together as a family. You, our partners, were present in support and prayer. Our partner ministries have pressed into our orphanage with even more compassion. John Ater, our founder, was on site in Juba from October to January. Our volunteer staff have been onsite day after day. Our children are growing in stature and in the fear of the Lord.
11 Come, my children, listen to me;
I will teach you the fear of the Lord.
12 Whoever of you loves life
and desires to see many good days,
13 keep your tongue from evil
and your lips from telling lies.
14 Turn from evil and do good
seek peace and pursue it.
Psalm 34:1-14
We hope you will visit our website to see more information. One new feature we are adding in this quarter are personal stories about our staff and our children. Thank you for the ways you showed us in 2020 that you see these children.
God be praised.
Our 2021 plans are trusting in God's mercies.
In 2021 we are hopeful to finish the construction of our new facility in Juba. Once construction is done, we will have 10 classrooms that will double as dormitory housing at night. As you can see in the video, we purchased tents for this period of transition. At the end of construction, we will continue to enjoy the tents to provide enough shelter for our congregation of children.
We are growing.
We are soon to receive the 8th grade class from SEA Partners‘ school in upper Boma. Their addition to the NOC school will allow them to coninue their education in a multi-ethnic setting. This aligns with our mission to connect unique tribes to learn together and to build relationships that will heal ethnic division in South Sudan. With this addition, we will have a representation of 63 of the 64 unique tribes of South Sudan.
Our plans for 2021 also include:
- Further agriculture development with hopes for both food to eat and food to sell in the market.
- Planting more eucalyptus trees, so that within a few years we can harvest them for charcoal and timber poles to sell in the market.
- Use of the new adjacent land purchased
- Paying a monthly wage to our volunteer staff in Juba, South Sudan
We are pursuing accountability and sustainability.
With that goal in mind, we are publishing our complete 2021 budget on the website. Here is an overview of the four main categories.
- Administration: $5579.01 (14%) – This category includes our cost for accounting software, US and South Sudan registration fees, consultation with industry experts, etc. Board members serve as volunteers.
- Food/Medical Supplies: $12,400 (31%) – This category includes charcoal for cooking, food, oil, transportation for donated medical supplies.
- Construction: $11,900 (30%) – This category includes our remaining cost for the new facility classrooms, bathrooms, and mosquito nets for sleeping.
- Staffing: $10,200 (25%) – This category includes a monthly benefit of $30/mo to each of our 40 staff members in Juba. Since NOC began in 2017 the staff has been serving on a volunteer basis. We believe this an area of priority.
2021 Budget Total: $40,079.01
PRAISE:
We have received our determination letter from the IRS. Our 501(c)(3) status is APPROVED. There was an error on our application that classified us as a private charity and not public. Our tax lawyer is working with us to bring this to resolution, however this doesn’t effect our nonprofit status. Our response is deep gratitude.
- Thank you to our Father for his aid in helping us to resolve our nonprofit status, we have received great mercy.
- Thank you to all of our supporters for your patience.
- Thank you for the unfailing partnership of Love the Hungry. In this season of transition, they have graciously received donations on our behalf, thus allowing our supporters to be assured of receiving a tax-deduction.
Any donation questions can be answered by our treasurer.
One-time and/or monthly support is welcome.
Partnership: pursuing sustainability

John Ater is headed back to Juba in the beginning of March, 2021. Please pray for the following:
- the construction completion and dedication
- gathering of the stories of the children and of the staff members
- continued relationship building with ministry partners
- for his family back in the US
Container arrival!
As you may recall, we have been awaiting the arrival of the container from our partner, Love the Hungry. Rejoice with us. After many delays, it arrived in Juba this week. Within this shipment are school supplies, medical supplies and dried food. The food provides our children with enough meals for the year.
